The moment the sun comes out people start thinking about getting outside and enjoying the weather. It feels nice, the fact that the sun is a great source of vitamin D is simply a bonus!
But, to really enjoy the warmer days and evenings, you need to have a nice outdoor living space, ideally directly connected to the house.
It’s easier to create than you think but it takes a little planning. There is no better time to do that than during the winter, ready to make the changes in spring.

  1. Add An Awning
To really enjoy the great outdoors you’re going to need some sort of cover. That means shade from the sun and perhaps protection from any unexpected downpours.
While there are several viable options, awnings are generally one of the best choices. They can be fastened to the wall of your house and kept in when you have inclement weather. You can then unwind them to provide the shade or rain cover you need.
You’ll have to choose between electric or manual versions. An awning will help you enjoy your outdoor living space more often.

  1. Furniture
If you want to use your outdoor living area then you’re going to need somewhere to sit, a table to rest drinks and perhaps food, and maybe even a larger table for eating at.
The best furniture choices are those that can be left out throughout the year. That means going with plastic or wicker, minimal maintenance and easy to add cushions when needed.
You may also want to add some additional chairs to ensure everyone is comfortable.

  1. Firepit
While the day can be stunning the evening can cool surprisingly quickly. That means you’ll want something to keep you warm. You can choose a central fire pit or add a built-in fireplace.
Both will provide heat to help you and your guests stay warm. Having them built-in means they are always available to use with the minimal of fuss and they are a vital feature of the outdoor area.

  1. Lighting
Of course, if you’re staying outside until the weather cools you may also want some lights to help create the right effect. Take a look at the wide array of lights on offer. You’ll need to decide between lights that simply illuminate versus lights that create ambience.
If you wish, you can add both to allow you to create either atmosphere, depending on what you are doing.

  1. Features
It’s worth adding an array of personal touches. These are what make the outdoor space feel like part of your living area. You can add plants to the edge of the area, ornaments, and anything else that can help the area to feel more personal, even intimate.
Features cover a lot of different things but, providing you choose items that really appeal to you, you’ll find that the patio looks awesome and you feel at home.
Just remember, you need to be able to clean the area easily to help it look its best. Don’t clutter the floor.

  1. Indoor Outdoor Painting
Bringing the outdoors in and the indoor out makes your outdoor space feel connected to your home.  If you’re considering an outdoor kitchen or large doors to connect indoor living areas, a professional Perth painter and decorator can help you choose a colour to complement your existing interior design.
