Ska Caps Off Huge Week of International Wins With Brewers' Holy Grail, a Medal at the World Beer Cup

Durango, CO (May 7, 2016)—Ska Brewing’s flagship True Blonde Ale was awarded the bronze medal in the category of “English-Style Summer Ale” at the World Beer Cup last night. Established to celebrate the art and science of brewing, the World Beer Cup has been a bi-annual tradition since 1996.
Breweries from six different continents entered the competition with a diverse range of beer styles. The competition has been called “The Olympics of Beer Competitions” with judges critiquing beers in over ninety style categories. Beers were judged according to taste, aroma and appearance as it pertained to their particular style. True Blonde is a crisp Blonde Ale— Golden in color, medium in body and brewed with the help and the honey of Durango’s local Honeyville™ bees. The taste is mildly sweet from the use of local honey, followed by bready malts, a touch of tangy wheat, a pleasantly mild bitterness, and citrus hop flavors in the end. ABV: 5% IBU’s: 20 SRM: 4
“I couldn’t be more proud of our brewers and the consistency they continue to show across the board with all of our beers,” said Dave Thibodeau, Co-Founder and President of Ska. “There’s nothing better than a win at the World Beer Cup.”
The World Beer Cup strives to bring awareness to quality beers and emphasize that breweries can produce beer contrary to their region’s traditional style. With over two hundred qualified beer professionals on the judging panel, the World Beer Cup awards excellence in craft brewing.
True Blonde medals bookend what turned out to be an amazing week for Ska in international beer competitions. The week began with two bronze medals at last weekend’s Los Angeles International Beer Competition, one for True Blonde and one for Rudie Session IPA, before culminating with the win at the World Beer Cup during the Craft Brewers Conference in Philadelphia. The Brewer’s Association also held a medal-winning ceremony at the conference for brewers who won medals at some of the world’s largest international competitions last year, and Ska was honored to receive the following awards; European Beer star awards, Gold, Modus Hoperandi; Brussels Beer Challenge, Silver, Steel Toe Stout and Bronze for Ska Face; Silver for True Blonde at the Australian International Beer awards.
