Companies looking to recruit technical staff to expand their businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to do so according to Justin Lyon, CEO of Simudyne and keynote speaker at NextGen14, the flagship two day conference to be held on 11th and 12th November in Derby.
Lyon’s comments follow an Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) study earlier this year which found that at least a third of the 400 employers surveyed do not expect to get the “suitably qualified” applicants they need for their technical or IT projects.
Lyon adds: “Technical skills like computer engineering, design and programming are increasingly important and we need to raise awareness of the job opportunities in the digital community. Without an increased emphasis on those with technical know-how, a vital part of the UK economy begins to fall into crisis."
Simudyne creates safe simulated environments to generate, test and refine ideas before taking action in the real world. Their unique cognition platform is used to solve complex problems that can impact businesses. They are helping leaders make radically better decisions on a number of projects across the world.
Marit Hendriks, Director of NG Events Ltd, said, “We are absolutely delighted to have Justin on board as a keynote speaker at NextGen 14. He along with the rest of our fantastic range of guest speakers will again highlight the leading issues surrounding next generation access, including a call for employers to work more closely with the education system to draw out future talent.”
Now in its seventh year, NextGen 2014 will focus on topics including digital communities, smarter cities, connectivity and enterprise growth. Other themes include 5G, open data, privacy and municipal enterprise.
The conference will also hold a special presentation ceremony to reveal the winners of the Next Generation Digital Challenge Awards 2014, showcasing the best in next generation digital access infrastructure and innovative applications in the UK.
NextGen 14 is the UK’s leading event for next generation digital access and will be hosted by Derby City Council at the historic Silk Mill – the site of the first factory in the world.
