While terrible weather may be predictable, flooding often surprises homeowners. Whether you experienced flooding during the recent inclement weather patterns or not, there are still steps you should take to prevent flood water damage. Often, the issue quietly builds behind the scenes until it all comes crashing down.

I'm Joe Rantino from Gladesville Plumbing Services, and with over two decades in the industry serving the wider Sydney area, I've seen my share of flood damage. With the recent La Niña, there was costly damage across several suburbs, much of which could have been prevented with a proactive approach to plumbing.

Hunters Hill

Hunters Hill was kept busy with falling trees and flash floods, leading to serious drainage issues and property damage for many homeowners.

Over time, drainage problems develop due to a slow fill as rainy weather pushes debris and sludge their way. Eventually, the dam breaks; the drainage issue becomes a much larger problem when heavy rain falls, and you have a flood on your hands. A plumber can inspect your drains before heavy rain to make sure everything is in working order.

Chatswood

Chatswood was hit with heavy rains in February that led to serious flooding in the area. In addition to the risk of drainage problems, many homeowners reported roof leaks. Roofing is just at risk during rainy weather as the drainage and gutters.

Lane Cove

Despite heavy rain in Lane Cove, the flooding was isolated. Still, there was considerable damage, with one business being forced to temporarily close due to flooding. The local oval has also been closed for several months to upgrade drainage and irrigation to prevent future flooding issues.

North Shore

North Shore was one of the heaviest hit in the storms, with hundreds of calls placed to emergency services. With storms dropping huge rainfall in such a short amount of time, the drainage system didn't have time to recover, causing serious flooding in the area.

One little drainage issue can become a serious problem for everyone in the area.

Paramatta

Western Sydney saw heavy rainfall and strong winds. Big storms loosen and detach roof tiles, which leaves properties at serious risk of flooding. A roof plumber can inspect your roof if you suspect there's an issue; the quicker you address it, the safer your property will be from inclement weather.

Allowing a professional plumber to inspect your drainage, gutters, and roofing regularly will help prevent flooding when heavy rains come. It's the best way to find niggling issues before they become major problems.
