24 July 2014: The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) is set to launch a statewide roadshow to educate the profession about new industry-specific laws which will come into force later this year.
REIQ Acting CEO Antonia Mercorella said the roadshow commencing in Brisbane would visit Queensland’s major regional centres from August to October.
“These training sessions are essential for all practising real estate practitioners,” she said.
“Whether you work in administrative support or are the principal of an agency, you simply can’t afford to miss them.”
Ms Mercorella said the training sessions would provide participants with a detailed overview of the new laws contained in the Property Occupations Act 2014 and the accompanying Regulations.
“The sessions will include a number of scenario- based exercises to allow participants the opportunity to apply the training in a ‘real world’ context,” she said.
“There will also be a focus on new appointment requirements and forms, giving agents the skills they need to protect their commissions.”
Ms Mercorella said the split of the Property Agents and Motor Dealers Act 2000 was one of the most significant legislative reforms to impact the real estate industry in Queensland.
“After years of lobbying and pushing for much-need legislative change, the REIQ is thrilled the new real estate laws will be commencing later this year,” she said.
Ms Mercorella, who is also the REIQ’s General Counsel and a solicitor by profession, will deliver the training sessions.
She was heavily involved in the development of the new laws and brings a unique insight into the application of those laws to agency practice.
